AI-Based Writing Guidelines

The Journal of Science and Technology (JST) allows authors to employ generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies to enhance the readability and language of their manuscripts. However, it is imperative that authors exercise human oversight and control throughout the writing process, as AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, incompleteness, or biases.

Principles:

  1. Human Oversight and Control: Authors must ensure that the use of AI in the writing process is supervised and guided by human judgment. AI should assist authors in improving readability and language, but the final content should be thoroughly reviewed and edited by human authors.

  2. Authorship and Accountability: AI and AI-assisted technologies should not be attributed authorship or co-authorship status. Authorship entails responsibilities and tasks that are uniquely human. Authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the content of their publications.

  3. Transparency and Disclosure: Authors must transparently disclose the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process. This disclosure should be included in the manuscript before the References section, under a designated section titled 'Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process'.

Disclosure Instructions: Authors should follow these instructions to disclose the use of AI technologies in their manuscript:

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process: During the preparation of this work, the author(s) utilized [NAME OF TOOL / SERVICE] to [SPECIFY PURPOSE, e.g., enhance readability and language]. Following the use of this tool/service, the author(s) thoroughly reviewed and edited the content to ensure accuracy and completeness. The author(s) take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication.

Note: This disclosure is not applicable to the use of basic tools for grammar checking, spelling, referencing, etc. If authors did not employ generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, there is no need to include a disclosure statement.
